ART COMMISSIONS FACTS

WHAT IS THE PROCESS OF AN ART COMMISSION?
The first step is to go through my portfolio and select your favorite paintings. Choose pieces that you think would look great in your room, in terms of color and subject matter. Let me know what draws you to these paintings, and let me know any elements that you would like to see represented in your paint- ing, such as "birds with quirky expressions," "sailboat on the water," "silhouetted faces," etc. The next step is to send me photos of your room, including pictures of any fabrics, rugs, and accents in the room. I will use these references to create my color palette for the painting.

Now that I have everything I need to begin painting. I start by mixing my colors based on my reference photos, and I create an original composition based on photos. I start by creating a small colored sketch, to make sure my colors and composition will work well in the room. Then I am ready to work on the larger painting.

WHAT ARE THE CONTRACT AND TERMS?
I ask for a 50% deposit up front, with the remainder due when the client has the painting in their home and it is everything they hoped it would be. A photograph of the painting is emailed when the painting is completed, and the client can usually tell right away if they like it or not, although the final test is seeing the painting on the wall. If the client doesn't like the painting for any reason, I will give the commission another attempt, after understanding what they like or dislike about the first painting. However, with enough communication up front about your expectations, the painting should turn out right the first time.

WHAT ABOUT THE FINAL FEE OF THE COMMISSION CUSTOM PAINTING?
All fees are based on the finished size of the painting.
- A 30% custom fee added to the original painting prices based on the size.

A supplement of $50 dollars will be added for 2 coats of exterior polyurthane varnish if needed.

HELPFUL TIPS
- Go through Atelier Vero artist's portfolio or website here, and point out which paintings you like or don't like, and what you like or don't like about each.

- Consider a "triptych" or a "diptych" for your home, a painting that continues across two or three separate images, giving the art a unique, exciting look. I have even successfully added side panels to paintings that had already been purchased, to give them greater width and add an interesting twist.

The bottom line is that a happy customer is a happy artist!
