Coastal Towns That Inspire My Work: My Artistic Travel Log

Every artist has a muse. For me, inspiration often comes with the sound of waves, the scent of salt air, and the colorful charm of coastal towns. Living in Rhode Island means I’m never far from the sea—and each seaside town tells its own story, shaping my art in ways both subtle and bold.
Here’s a peek inside my travel log, filled with the places that keep my creative spirit alive and my palette forever bright.
Wickford, Rhode Island
Just a short drive from my studio, Wickford is one of those places that instantly slows down time. I love wandering its streets lined with historic homes and blooming hydrangeas. The reflections of the boats in the harbor and the soft blues of the sky often find their way into my paintings and illustrations. It’s coastal charm at its finest — calm, colorful, and full of heart.
Narragansett, Rhode Island
Narragansett holds the essence of summer — sun, surf, and simplicity. I’m endlessly inspired by its beaches, especially in the early morning when the light hits the waves just right. The textures of the sand, sea grass, and rocks often inspire the organic patterns I create for my textile designs.
Ogunquit, Maine
Ah, Ogunquit — one of my favorite escapes. The word itself means “beautiful place by the sea” in the Abenaki language, and it truly lives up to its name. I love strolling along Marginal Way with my yes wide open, taking in the cliffs and cottages that seem straight out of a dream. It’s a blend of coastal serenity and artistic energy that always recharges my creative spirit.
Mystic, Connecticut
Mystic feels like a step back in time, with its old ships, wooden bridges, and cozy restaurants. There’s a whimsical energy here — maybe it’s the mix of maritime history and small-town charm. I find myself inspired by the colors of the harbor and the patterns of waves against the docks. It’s a perfect place to pause, observe, and fill my creative cup.
Stonington, Connecticut
Quiet, quaint, and full of texture — Stonington is a hidden gem. The streets and shingled cottages create such a timeless atmosphere. I often draw inspiration from its natural palette: muted blues, sandy neutrals, and weathered wood tones. It reminds me that beauty can be both calm and full of character — just like art itself.
Inspiration Everywhere
Each of these towns has given me something different — a color story, a feeling, a spark of an idea. Whether it’s a pattern inspired by the ripples of the tide or a palette drawn from a sunset over the harbor, these places live within my work.
If you ever visit these coastal gems, take your sketchbook, your camera, or simply your heart — and let the beauty of New England fill your creative soul.
